Cato Networks to Expose the Real Threats Behind Network Breaches at BSides Dublin 2025
Cato CTRLto demonstrate how everyday attacks—not advanced threats—continue to compromise networks
TEL AVIV, Israel, May 15, 2025 – Cato Networks, the SASE leader, today announced that Avishay Zawoznik (director of research at Cato Networks and member of Cato CTRL) will present at BSides Dublin 2025.
The session, “Start covering your bases & stop chasing APT headlines” (Saturday, May 24 at 15:00 PM CEST), will shed light on how cognitive biases shape the cybersecurity industry’s tendency to chase sensational threats—often at the expense of addressing the more common and damaging attacks that occur daily.
The session will include a live simulation of a full network breach, modeled after real-world incidents and leveraging digital forensic and incident response (DFIR) reports, the MITRE ATT&CK framework, and red team techniques. Zawoznik will walk the audience through each stage of the attack—initial access, discovery, lateral movement, and exfiltration—using standard tools and tradecraft.
Attendees will also gain actionable insights on how to implement defense-in-depth strategies, with a particular emphasis on the critical role of network controls and layered detections in stopping intrusions before they escalate.
“Too often, we’re distracted by flashy headlines or newly discovered threats,” said Avishay Zawoznik, director of research at Cato Networks and member of Cato CTRL. “But the reality is that most network breaches are executed using tried-and-true methods that we already understand—and can defend against if we apply the right principles.”
