Cato Networks to Explore How to Unlock the Full Power of WAN Transport with SD-WAN at CHI-NOG 12

Cato to outline paths forward for leveraging SD-WAN to maximize WAN transport including intelligent routing and next-gen connectivity

TEL AVIV, Israel, May 8, 2025 Cato Networks, the SASE leader, today announced that Dane Jackson (director of global professional services at Cato Networks) will present at CHI-NOG 12 in Chicago, which is the twelfth annual conference of the Chicago network operators group.

The session, “SD-WAN is Dead, Long Live SD-WAN!” (Thursday, May 15 at 8:00 AM CT), will examine the evolution of SD-WAN technology and the critical need to rethink how enterprises approach WAN transformation in a cloud-first world. Since its emergence in 2014, SD-WAN has disrupted the WAN ecosystem, replacing expensive, carrier-managed private circuits with agile, Internet-based connectivity. However, the real-world results have been mixed.

Examples include persistent global routing inefficiencies that hamper performance in regions outside North America and Europe. For instance, traffic between South American nations often detours through the U.S., while African and Middle Eastern traffic frequently routes through Europe, leading to latency and reliability issues. These limitations reveal the cracks in the current Internet-based SD-WAN paradigm. The session will explain that the solution is not to abandon SD-WAN, but to evolve it.

“Some have declared SD-WAN obsolete, but the reality is that it needs to be reimagined,” said Dane Jackson, director of global professional services at Cato Networks. “By leveraging well-peered content networks, creating regional network bridges, and optimizing WAN routing strategies, we can finally unlock the full promise of SD-WAN. Intelligent traffic steering and dynamic path selection are more essential than ever.”
